Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Image
Book Lovers is about a woman named Nora Stephens, who is in her early thirties and works as a literary agent. She’s an extremely career-oriented person. She’s that typical woman whom every boy dumps because of their newly found small-town romance. She doesn’t really care about anyone, but at the same time, there’s her sister, Libby, and her nieces, who are her whole world. She’s ready to do anything for them. Libby, in order to bring Nora out of the city and away from her work decides to go on a one-month vacation with her sister in a small town. But that didn’t work when Nora meets Charlie Lastra in the town, who is an editor from the city, whom she has met before, and let’s just say that they didn’t have a good first impression about each other. This book is a chill-pill, heartwarming romcom book. I enjoyed reading the book. I really liked the sibling relationship in this book. Nora and Libby are always there for each other. If one of them has a problem the other gets know immediatel...

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel

Image
This book follows both the post-apocalyptic and pre-apocalyptic world which was affected by an epidemic called the Georgia Flu. After 20 years of this epidemic, only a minor percent of humanity has survived and has established themselves in various small settlements across the world. This new world has no idea what electricity is, what a refrigerator is, what a car is. In this world, where everything is in tatters, there’s this group of people who calls themselves the ‘Travelling Symphony’, these people are artists, they travel around through these settlements and perform music and plays. This book is about hope and survival. There are so many things that I liked about this book; firstly, the character development, we see various characters' lives before and after the epidemic, and it’s really beautiful to see them grow. Secondly, this book doesn’t follow just a single person’s point of view, it has various points of view. Thirdly, it shows the liv...

Fangirl is about a girl named Cath, she’s an introverted person, who has anxiety. She wishes to keep to herself and not to meet any new people. Wren, Cath’s twin sister is exactly the opposite of her sister, she’s an extrovert, who loves to meet new people and make friends. Cath is starting her freshman year. She doesn’t want to leave her home, but Wren wants to explore and meet new people and that’s how they end up at a university far from home. Cath is a reader as well as a writer. She’s a huge fan of a series named Simon Snow. She writes fanfictions about Simon and Baz from this series. She’s quite a popular author in the fanfiction community. This book is all about how she’s trying to cope and live her life. I really enjoyed reading this book, it was a quick read for me. The story was really heartwarming. To a point, I could relate to Cath and that made my reading experience better. I really loved the bitter-sweet relationship between Cath and Wren, also I loved the relationshi...

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Image
The Night Circus is about a mysterious circus. Why is it mysterious? Because this circus arrives at a place unannounced and departs announced, one day it's there and the next day it's not. Also, another fact about this circus is that opens at dusk and closes at dawn. The circus has various tents for different acts such as illusionists, fortune-tellers, acrobats, contortionists, etc. But the catch is that this circus is the venue for a magical duel between two magicians Celia and Marco, who are just put into this duel without any choice of their own, without any knowledge of the game rules.  The first half of the book was more of world-building, I wouldn't say that I didn't enjoy that, but I really liked the second half better. My overall experience was really good with the book. I really loved the writing style, Erin ...

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V E Schwab

Image
Stars : 4/5 In the year of 1914, a 23-year-old woman named Addie LaRue is about to get married,. But she doesn't want that. She wants to be indepe ndent, she wants to be free. Hence, she prays earnestly and a Dark God answers her, and grants her wish, but the twist is that she is immortal and no one will remember Addie, she can't leave a mark of her own. For 300 years, she finds loopholes in her curse and survives. But now out of nowhere a boy named Henry remembers her, and she doesn't know how. I'd a experience of ups and downs with this book. I faced a little difficulty to get into the writing style of V E Schwab, but then I got used to it. In the beginning of the book I thought that I would give it 5 stars, then in the middle of the book I thought that I would give it 2 stars and in the end I gave it 4 stars. The ups and down I had was because of Henry, I found it really difficult to like him, but in the end I liked him. To be honest I really liked the Dark God more...

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

Image
Stars : 2/5 This book is about a girl named Jane Eyre, who loses her father and mother at a very young age. Hence she lives as an orphan at her aunts house, where her aunt and her cousins ill-treats her. At the age of 10 she is sent to Lowood School, which is a boarding school. After spending 8 years of her life in that school, she wants more from her life than just being confined in the walls of the school, so she advertises for a job. Soon she becomes a governess of a child named Adele in Thornfield Hall. And her life starts taking a different path. I've never been so confused about my feeling on a book. I wasn't sure that whether I liked this book or disliked it. And I guess that I'm somewhere in between. This book being Classic, it was really hard for me to get into it, because they are definitely not my cup of tea. But to be honest there are parts where I really enjoyed, but still this book didn't live upto my expectations.

The Mystery of Alice by Lee Bacon

Image
Stars : 5/5 This book is about a 13-year-old girl named Emily Poe, who gets a one time opportunity to attend the elite Audyn School. But for that she has to pass a 'not so normal' scholarship test. Only she and another girl named Alice passes the scholarship exam. Soon she becomes close to Alice, but there are lot of mysteries about Alice that she still doesn't know about. But suddenly like a wave, everything comes to light and everything is swept away from her. This a tween book, though people from any age group can read it. It's a feel good book. The sound effects that the audiobook had was just amazing. The only thing that bothered me was the age of the characters, all of them were thirteen, and it's really hard to believe that thirteen year old kids could do this. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
